I stumbled upon this small, but very useful feature, in Microsoft Word 2010 a few days ago. Word 2010 has a built-in feature that allows you to take a screen snapshots of your computer screen (called a screenshot) and directly paste them into your working document where the cursor is blinking.
To use the Screenshot utility in Word,
1. Place the blinking cursor in the document where you want to inject a screenshot.
3. A crosshair will appear onscreen and your desktop will dim. Use the crosshair by clicking and holding the mouse button to create a box over the content you want to have in the screenshot, then release the mouse button. The selected content will automatically be injected into your document where the blinking cursor was located.
This utility works in Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7. For those that don’t have Office 2010 installed (such as Office 2003 or Office 2007), I am sorry to say that there is not a screenshot utility built into older versions of Microsoft Word. Of course, there are many other screenshot utilities that integrate with Windows such as Screenpresso or the open-source SourceForge project LightScreen. Enjoy!
