Now that Windows 8 has been officially released, there are plenty of how-to articles on the Spiceworks Community in the Windows 8 Group. Amongst a few of my own articles fellow IT Professional David Scammell has created many more very helpful articles on Windows 8 which include:
- Accessing “God Mode”
- Using Windows 8 on a non-touch device
- Shortcuts and Hot-Keys
- System Management Tools built into Windows 8 (for IT Pros)
- and more

If you are not familiar with Spiceworks, it is a company based in Austin, TX that makes IT management software of the same name. It does have limited ad supported software, but the ads are non-intrusive and Spiceworks it is free to download and use. With Spiceworks, you can monitor your computer network, track assets and inventory, track toner levels in your printers, alert against software updates, keep track of non-compliant computers, and more. But the thing that makes Spiceworks special is it’s IT Pro Community. Have a question? Ask it on the Spiceworks community. Want advice on whether or not to purchase a product? Ask it on the Spiceworks community. Spiceworks, as a company, also sponsors local IT Pro meet ups through their SpiceCorp program.
I am a member of the SpiceCorps of Central Florida, a Spiceworks Community IT Pro group, that meets every month in Orlando. Our leader does Spiceworks software demonstrations, we talk about various issues, technology, and all together have a great time sharing war stories about the network, server, desktop, and OSI Layer 8 (the users). Spiceworks is not only about promoting their software, they promote knowledge sharing and face-to-face meetups. If there is a SpiceCorp group in your area, I highly encourage you to attend. I guarantee you’ll be hooked!
